bFluid vs Predictive Index for managers

Predictive Index is the established name in workplace behavioural assessment. bFluid is a tool for the manager in front of the team. They're built for different buyers, and sometimes they're used together.

Updated · 3-minute read

The short version

Predictive Index (PI) has been assessing workplace behaviour since 1955. More than 10,000 organisations use it, usually bought by HR, across hiring, team design and management, and often delivered through a network of certified partners. Everyone takes the 6-minute PI Behavioral Assessment; managers then get relationship guides and management strategy guides from the results.

bFluid is built for the manager, not the organisation. You upload whatever personality reports your team already has (PI reports included), or answer a few questions about someone who's never taken one, and get a plain-English read on each person plus specific advice for the conversation in front of you. It's bought online, per manager, with no sales call.

If your company is choosing an organisation-wide behavioural platform, PI is a serious candidate. If you're a manager who wants to be better with your own team this week, bFluid is built for you.

Where Predictive Index is stronger

Breadth across the organisation. PI covers the whole employee lifecycle: candidate matching and interview guides in hiring, team design, management and engagement surveys. If you want one behavioural standard everywhere, that's what it's for.

Depth of validation. PI's assessment has decades of use and a large body of validity research behind it. For an HR team that has to defend an assessment choice, that matters.

Delivery and training. PI's certified partners run workshops, train managers and support roll-outs. That's a real service, and it's part of why PI costs what it does.

Where bFluid is stronger

It starts from what you already have. Most teams have taken something at some point, and it's often a mix: one person's PI from a previous job, another's DISC from a workshop, a CliftonStrengths report from a leadership course. bFluid reads all of them. PI needs everyone on PI.

It's available to a manager, today. No business case, no HR budget, no sales call. A manager can be using bFluid with their team in an afternoon, for the cost of a few coffees a month.

Advice for the moment, not just the person. PI's guides describe the relationship in general. bFluid's advice is for the specific thing coming up: "I need to give Emma difficult feedback about missed deadlines." You get what to say and what to avoid, for her, now.

Fair to the person being described. In bFluid, each team member sees the same read their manager does, adds how they like to work in their own words, and can delete what they've shared. Once they're invited, nothing held about them is out of their sight.

Transparent pricing. On the website, in pounds and dollars.

Using them together

If your organisation already has PI, you don't have to choose. Managers can upload their team's PI reports to bFluid and get the day-to-day advice that an organisation-wide platform isn't built to give. It's a common pattern: the company owns the assessment; the manager owns the conversations.

Which should you choose?

Choose Predictive Index if you're HR or leadership selecting one behavioural platform for the whole organisation, hiring is part of what you need, and you want certified partners to deliver it.

Choose bFluid if you're a manager who wants to be specific with each person on your team, your people already have reports from different places (or none), and you'd rather start on the free plan than start a procurement.

Personality is a starting point, not a verdict. Whichever you use, the person remains the best source on how they like to be managed; use the tool to open that conversation.

Questions managers ask

Is bFluid a Predictive Index alternative?

For a manager who wants to use personality to manage their team better, yes. For an HR team rolling out one behavioural standard across hiring, teams and development, PI is built for that and bFluid isn't.

Can bFluid read Predictive Index reports?

Yes. If your team has taken PI, you can upload their reports and bFluid builds a read on each person from them, alongside any other reports the team has.

Does my team need to take a test for bFluid?

No. bFluid works from the reports people already have, or from a few questions about what you've observed. Each person can add their own words to anything that's wrong, and delete what they've shared.

How much does Predictive Index cost?

PI publishes plans starting at $10,000 a year, scaling with headcount, with unlimited assessments and no per-seat fees. Reported median contracts are around $13,600 a year. Check predictiveindex.com for current pricing.
