bFluid vs Crystal: personality tools for managers

Crystal and bFluid both turn personality into practical advice. They start from very different places. Here's how they compare, and which suits which team.

Updated · 3-minute read

The short version

Crystal is a DISC platform. It started as a way to predict someone's personality from public information, so salespeople could tailor how they approach a prospect, and has grown into a team platform where everyone takes Crystal's assessment and colleagues browse each other's profiles.

bFluid is for managers. It reads the personality reports your team already has, from whichever framework they came from, or a few questions about what you've seen, and gives you a plain-English read on each person plus specific advice for the conversations coming up.

If you're in sales, Crystal is built for you. If you manage a team, and especially if your people have already taken DISC, MBTI, Insights or Strengths at some point, bFluid is built for you.

Where Crystal is stronger

Reading people you've never met. Crystal's prediction model is its signature feature. For a salesperson preparing for a call with a stranger, a best guess at their style from public information is genuinely useful, and bFluid doesn't do this at all.

One company-wide standard. If your organisation wants everyone on a single framework, with assessments, team reports and a white-labelled platform, Crystal is designed for that roll-out.

Integrations. Crystal connects to tools such as LinkedIn, HubSpot and AI assistants, which matters for sales workflows.

Where bFluid is stronger

It uses what you already paid for. Most organisations have run DISC, MBTI, Insights or Strengths at some point. Those reports usually sit unread after the workshop. bFluid reads them, whichever framework they are, so nobody has to take another test, and you get value from the money already spent.

Mixed teams are normal. People join from different companies with different reports: one has MBTI, one has CliftonStrengths, one has never taken anything. bFluid builds a read on each of them anyway. A single-framework tool asks everyone to start again on its own test.

Advice for a specific moment. bFluid is built around the conversations a manager actually has: how to run this person's 1:1, how to give them difficult feedback, what to do when two people keep clashing. You describe the situation and get what to say and what to avoid, for that person.

Fair to the person being described. In bFluid, each person sees the same read their manager does, can add how they like to work in their own words, and can delete what they've shared. bFluid never guesses someone's personality from their online profile.

Simple pricing. One price per manager, on the website, with your team included.

Which should you choose?

Choose Crystal if you're a sales team that needs a read on prospects before you've met them, or your organisation wants to standardise everyone on DISC through one platform.

Choose bFluid if you manage a team and want to be specific with each person, especially if your people already have personality reports from past workshops, or have reports from different frameworks, or you'd rather not ask anyone to take another test.

Personality is a starting point, not a verdict. Whichever tool you use, the best source on how someone likes to be managed is still the person, so use the tool to start that conversation, not to replace it.

Questions managers ask

Is bFluid a Crystal Knows alternative?

For managing your own team, yes. bFluid gives you a read on each person and advice before 1:1s, feedback and difficult conversations. If your main use is sales prospecting, Crystal is built for that and bFluid isn't.

Can bFluid read Crystal's DISC results?

Crystal's profiles are predictions rather than assessment reports, so bFluid doesn't read them. If your team has taken DISC through any assessment, bFluid reads that report.

Does bFluid predict personality from LinkedIn or online profiles?

No. bFluid only works from reports the person has actually taken, or from what you've observed working with them, and the person can see and correct everything.

Which is cheaper?

bFluid is £29 ($39) per manager per month, with your team included at no extra cost. Crystal's individual plans start at around $49 a month, with team pricing on request. Check both pricing pages for current figures.
